Greenway's senile twin!
This is astonishing; easily the most shocking thing I've witnessed in a good five years.
I've long been fascinated by John Greenway, probably as unlikely a scholar as has ever lived, but I barely recognized him here, this distracted middle-aged academic in the cheap suit and black horn-rim glasses, so completely opposite the mess-with-me-and-I'll-rip-your-lungs-out-through-your-nose Irish mafia enforcer on the back dust jacket of the dark, eccentric, Down Among The Wild Men. He rambles; he's beside, or around, or anywhere but on, the topic. His friend WFB tries valiantly, diplomatically, but futilely, to keep him in the corral. Nowhere to be heard is the brilliant polymath and rough & tumble scholar with the encyclopedic erudition, the wry humor (and biting wit), the vocabulary that put Buckley's to shame.
This is the nationally-rated chess master that used to play exhibition matches (and win) against as many as five other players? This guy doesn't seem like...
Boring!
I tried very hard to watch this film. I tried even harder to stay awake.
William F. Buckley Jr. and the guests were so laid back, one would think that they smoked out before the show.
I watched half of this show before turning it off.
Watch him slay guest after guest
Amazing to watch as he takes on players who are still on the field today. With laser precision W.F.B. lays waste to flawed thinking.
